๐ Limited-time: + free Texas CDL Passenger & School Bus study guide
Aldine Independent School District serves northern Harris County in the Houston area and is one of the fifteen largest districts in Texas, with about 56,000 students across 80 schools and a fleet of 474 buses running out of three transportation centers. The district was still posting for drivers in mid-2026 and runs its own Training Academy, so the demand for new operators is steady.
Aldine hires differently from many districts: you arrive with a commercial driver's license, or at least a CDL learner's permit, already carrying the P (passenger) and S (School Bus) endorsements. From there the district's paid academy provides the rest of your training, and you must earn the full Class B CDL within 90 days of hire. This page lays out the real Aldine ISD process - what you need in hand before you apply, what the district covers, and what the job pays.

How to become a School Bus Driver at Aldine ISD
The path in order. The guide expands every step with the exact forms, links, and figures for Aldine ISD.
Get your CDL permit first - the Aldine difference
Unlike districts that hire from scratch, Aldine expects you to arrive with at least a CDL learner's permit carrying the P (passenger) and S (School Bus) endorsements (a full Texas CDL is even better). Study the free Texas CDL Handbook and pass the written knowledge tests to get the permit before you apply.
Confirm you qualify
Texas sets the minimum age for a School Bus Driver at 18 and leaves the driving-experience minimum to each district, so confirm Aldine's standard when you apply. You need a driving record that meets the district's safe-driver standards; a high school diploma or GED is preferred. DUIs, suspensions, and serious violations are disqualifying.
Apply online for the "Bus Driver" role
Applications go through Aldine's Frontline (AppliTrack) system at applitrack.com/aldineisd; you can also walk in to a transportation center (call ahead for hours). The centers are East at 1617 Lauder Road, West at 9900 Antoine Drive, and North at 21246 Aldine Westfield Road, all in Houston.
Clear the screenings after your offer
After a conditional offer you complete a fingerprint-based DPS and FBI criminal-history check (monitored continuously through Texas Rap Back), a DOT 5-panel drug screening, a DOT physical, and Texas's annual DPS-approved physical and mental capability exam. The drug-screen and fingerprint fees are waived; the DOT physical is typically applicant-paid, so confirm who pays any remaining costs.
Finish your CDL in the district's paid academy
Aldine's Training Academy provides the behind-the-wheel training that takes a permit holder to a full Class B CDL with P and S endorsements, satisfies the federal ELDT rule, and is paid through the district (the trainee hourly rate isn't published). The full CDL must be in hand within 90 days of hire.
Complete training and start your route
The academy runs roughly four to six weeks on top of Texas's 20-hour certification course, then new drivers ride with trainers until they know the route. Full-time operators move into a 177-day assignment at a minimum of 5 paid hours a day, with TRS pension participation and medical, dental, and vision coverage. Drivers are represented by TWU Local 262.

Aldine ISD bus driver questions
Do I need a CDL to apply at Aldine ISD?
You need at least a CDL learner's permit carrying the P and S endorsements when you apply (a full Texas CDL is fine too). Aldine's paid academy finishes your training after hire, and you must hold the full Class B CDL within 90 days.
How much do Aldine ISD bus drivers make, and what are the hours?
Job-board and employee reports put starting pay around $21.68 per hour; the district does not publish its pay scale, so confirm the live figure when you apply. The role is a 177-day, 10-month schedule with a minimum of 5 paid hours per day.
What will the hiring process cost me?
The permit and its fees are yours, and the DOT physical is typically applicant-paid ($75-$200). Aldine waives the drug-screen and fingerprint fees. Because the district doesn't publish who pays every pre-employment cost, confirm the details with Transportation at 281-985-6628 when you apply.
What's the free CDL study guide?
For a limited time, every district guide comes bundled with a free study guide for your state's CDL Passenger and School Bus endorsements โ the two written tests you'll take. It covers exactly what's on those tests so you can pass the first time, at no extra cost.
Is this an official guide from the school district?
No. It is an independent preparation guide, not affiliated with or endorsed by any school district. It organizes the public information into one clear manual so you do not have to dig for it.
How do I get the guide after I pay?
Instantly. Checkout takes about a minute, then you get a download link on the screen and by email. It is a PDF you can open on any phone, tablet, or computer and keep.
